Target Group
The Level 2 Award Principles in Risk Assessment was created in response to requirements for all employees to be risk aware. Although not all employees will be expected to undertake risk assessments themselves, they may be asked to contribute to the process and will certainly be expected to act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others.
Key Skills
Persons gaining this qualification will have raised their awareness of the concept of risk assessment and should be better placed to undertake risk assessments within their own work environment. They should:-
- Have the ability to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment
- Understand the legal requirements for risk assessment
- Understand the principles of risk assessment including:
- hazards, risks and control measures
- the five steps of risk assessment
- the hierarchy of control
- risk assessment review and record keeping.

Guided learning hours for this qualification are 6 hours
Special Needs
Measures can be put in place for delegates with special needs.
Qualification Structure
This is a single unit Ofqual accredited qualification, assessed by a 1 hour, 30 question multiple-choice examination. Successful candidates must achieve a score of at least 20/30.
Examination Results and Certificates
The examination papers are marked by the Examining Board who will provide a list of results stating whether candidates have passed or failed. Award Certificates for successful candidates (and Attendance Certificates for others) will be dispatched to the school.
